Capt. Brian S. Letendre USMC: Brian’s hometown was Woodbridge Virginia where he graduated from
Potomac High School in 1996. He played competitive soccer as a goalkeeper from the time he was 11 years
old, Division 1 Travel Soccer and College Soccer. Brian attended Milligan College, Johnson City TN,
graduating with a computer science degree in May of 2000.
He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the USMC on stage as part of his college graduation ceremony. His very
proud Dad pinned on the gold bars.
Brian married his college sweetheart Autumn Crane in 2001. In March of 2003.
1st Lt Letendre fought in battle of An Nasiriyah Iraq as CATT commander 1st Battalion 2nd Marines. Brian
teamed with SSgt Troy Schielein, his second CATT commander, a man Brian held in the highest regard. For
his effort in An Nasiriyah, Capt Letendre received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with
Combat “V” for leadership, bravery and action in combat. His last assignment was with the USMC Inspector
Instructor Staff and active duty commander of the 1/25th Marine Corps reserve unit in Plainville CT.
Brian volunteered for and deployed to IRAQ for his second tour of duty in April 2006 as a member of an elite
11 man MITT with the responsibility of training Iraqi forces in combat tactics. On 3 May 2006, Brian was KIA
during a complex attack in Tammin Iraq. Brian survived an SBVIED attack during the initial strike and
continued to return fire, but was killed by a mortar during the battle. Brian served fellow Marines as a
Casualty Assistance Coordination Officer (CACO) while commander of the 1/25th.
